There’s always something happening at Good Shepherd.

The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd strives to extend Christ’s own radical hospitality to everything we do. Whether it’s an upcoming meeting, special service or noteworthy event, we work to build and strengthen relationships with one another and share the joy of life in community. Below is just some of what’s happening.

If you're planning an event at Good Shepherd, spread the word about your “happening” by telling us the details here.

Adult Education: Lenten Series - The Sights, Sounds, and Songs of Worship

Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 11:15 AM
"Why do we do that? Liturgical Gestures During Worship.": Have you ever wondered about all the gestures and “Lutheran calisthenics” that take place during the course of a Sunday liturgy? Why do we do things like make the sign of the cross, bow the head, or kneel during prayer in some seasons but not in others? Why do we stand during hymns or during the Gospel? Why do we sit during scripture readings and sermons? And why does the Pastor raise up the bread and wine during Holy Communion? For the answers to all these and more, come and learn from Deacon Kathy Good as to why we do these liturgical gestures during worship and why they are important.

Free As One: Black Worldmaking in the Pennsylvania Abolition Society Papers

Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 8:30 AM
Join the Good Shepherd Towards Racial Justice small group as we travel by carpool to the Historical Society of PA in Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 29th to see an exhibit from the Pennsylvania Historical Society on abolition: Free, As One: Black Worldmaking in the Pennsylvania Abolition Society Papers highlights themes of Black self-determination and leadership from the 1770s onward in the abolition movement of the Mid-Atlantic region. Drawing from the Pennsylvania Abolition Society (PAS) collection and commemorating the 250th anniversary of its founding, this exhibit refocuses our attention on abolition as a global, Black-led political movement championed by the PAS. Most importantly, the exhibit highlights how Black and Brown people, even in the midst of extreme oppression, imagined new futures and created new worlds for themselves. People who seemingly had nothing, envisioned and took action to regain freedom for future generations. This focus on the future—on unity and generational hope—is central to the narrative. We will leave Good Shepherd at 8:30AM, tour the exhibit at the , and share lunch (Dutch Treat) at a restaurant afterwards before returning home. Estimated return time, 4PM. Sign up on the Racial Justice Bulletin Board in the main hallway.
